27 Days until Snow, Extreme Tubing, and More Snow...

Have you ever been on a "cross country skiing skavenger hunt"?  Apparently they have them in Alaska, and they already have snow to do so.  There is also a great place to go "extreme tubing" - here is the link:  www.extremetubing.com  Apparently this is only 1.5 hours away, in the sweet town/city of Homer.  Stay tuned later in December for some footage...
Apparently there are multiple glaciers in the area, but in the winter, the roads to get to them are not always passable...so we'll see.  I just hope I get to see a moose!

Some Websites About Kenai, Alaska

Tonight I was looking around, and thought I'd put a few websites I want to remember...I learned that feeding bears and moose is illegal (makes sense), and that 90% of the Kenai Peninsula is wilderness.  Today it is 21 degrees F, so it isn't too much colder than where I'm at in Chicago for the weekend!
Here are a few websites I was looking at tonight:
www.peninsulaclarion.com (the Kenai online newspaper)

Okay...gotta go.

November 7 - Bear/Moose Info from Lindy!

So Lindy sent me an email today with a picture of a bear head...she learned that after people hunt a bear, they clean it, remove the meat, etc., then they (her words) "head to the Wildlife Troopers to measure the size of it's skull and take measurements of it's teeth.  This is to track the age of the bear and to make sure everything is legal and to track the bear community in the area."

She also said, "I did see a giant bull moose run across the highway IN TOWN the other morning.  It was funny, like watching a game of frogger with a moose!"

I am excited about seeing the interesting animal life in Alaska...and I just might run into Sarah Palin at the grocery store!

42 days until arrival in Alaska!

November 6 - 43 Days until my Alaska Trip!

So only 43 days until I leave to visit Lindy and Bob in Kenai, Alaska... I have a new NorthFace jacket, plenty of other warm clothes, a ticket that requires 3 different airlines to get me there and back, and I am excited!  There will possibly be 4 ft. of snow on the ground, and Lindy already has plans for us to go "extreme snow tubing."

Breakdown - December 20, 2008 - 9:45am leave Nashville, then arrive at 11:40ishpm in Anchorage.  December 30, 2008 - 12:30am - depart Anchorage, then return to Nashville in the early evening.

More later...
